Customized Tinctures have arrived at Yaletown Naturopathic Clinic!
Herbal medicine comes in various forms, and the tincture is one of our favourites. A tincture is made by macerating (aka soaking) dried or fresh herb in a solution, most commonly alcohol or glycerin. The active constituents of the herbs are extracted into the liquid, which is then pressed and bottled.
There are a few advantages to taking your herbs in tincture form. First, they can be better absorbed. Some supplements simply powder the plant material and encapsulate it, which makes absorption somewhat dependent on the health of the digestive system and the structure of the plant. Secondly, tinctures offer more predictable concentrations, making it easier to determine what dose should be used. Finally, they are prepared using individual herbs. When choosing a commercial supplement for a patient, we’re limited to what formulations are available. Tinctures allow us to prepare different formulas which can be customized for each patient’s needs. One downside is that some tinctures taste awful. But their effectiveness more than makes up for it.
For now, we’ve focused on a few particular areas of health – these include:
- Stress and Adrenal Support
- Cognitive support
- Immune support
If you have concerns in any of the above areas, feel free to contact one of our Naturopathic Doctors at Yaletown Naturopathic Clinic at firstname.lastname@example.org to see if they feel a custom tincture would be a good choice for you!
