What is Massage Therapy?
Yaletown Naturopathic Clinic now offers Registered Massage Therapy!
Massage Therapy is a hands-on therapy that improves your circulation, helps with your posture, and encourages your muscles and nervous system to relax. Many patients can benefit from massage therapy including those with physical injuries, disabilities, chronic disease and pain.
Why is this therapy beneficial for me?
Massage Therapy can help if you are experiencing any pain or discomfort, restricted range of motion or if you have had trauma of any kind (past or present). Your body creates a functional holding pattern reflecting your daily life, posture and any of these past injuries/traumas. It is from these compensations that the body can manifest symptoms such as discomfort, pain, numbness, tingling, headaches, etc. Massage Therapy works within the framework of the body to restore balance and promote optimal health and wellness. It is recommended that patients continue treatment sessions even if you are not experiencing pain (just less frequently) and whether you are living an active or sedentary lifestyle. By being proactive, you can prevent injuries and increase your overall quality of life.
I work diligently to fully understand your concerns and this helps me to treat you to the best of my abilities. It is important to me that I understand your goals so I can help you achieve them! Empower you with the knowledge, tools and preventative measures to support the treatment provided.
Is this similar to a relaxation massage?
Therapeutic massage is not the same as a relaxation massage. It has taken a lifetime for your body to create the holding pattern it’s in and a therapeutic response to treatment is part of the body’s way of signalling that something is not balanced in that area. I always work within the therapeutic pain range and I will never cause any undue discomfort. However, it is important to understand that if an area is painful to treat, that solidifies the idea that it needs to be treated.
How will I feel after the treatment?
After therapeutic massage treatment, the average person can feel some soreness, the same kind of soreness you feel from working out at the gym. After each subsequent session the soreness greatly subsides as your body gets used to the treatments. The treatment promotes a response which initiates healing by allowing blood flow to be fully restored, and a new, healthier balance of the body to be found.
